I stumbled over this funny facebook exit page a few days ago. It is quite standard for many Internet platforms to present you a warning like this: “do you really wanna go to that link?” or “see you again soon at our great platform….”. You are leaving the walled garden but they want you to stay. In this particular case I think it is hilarious that facebook titles one of its own pages ‘leaving facebook’. People been talking about leaving facebook since years.

As a fun (and rather useless) service I offer at leaving-facebook.com for everyone to create custom ‘leaving facebook’-URLs. There has been a bit confusion and questions about what this services actually does. It is very simple. If you enter a URL in the form and hit submit facebook will present you the according exit warning page.  Follow the link, that is the idea of the WWW.

“You Have 0 Friends”

Today on 31st of May, the official quitfacebookday.com, you should take 20 min off from work and watch this South Park episode. It’s a brilliant mix of FB everyday life social hassle and the power of profiles combined with the mother of all virtuality “Tron”.

I hope Smotri.com is a safe place for this material. ;-)

"I’m a Facebook addict"

Will everybody have more than 10.000 friends and FB be useless in 2 years?
Will there be more videos and pictures in FB than on Youtube and flickr?
Will FB buy Microsoft and release a FB operating system?
Will people consider the Arpanet as predecessors of FB?
;-)

Well, we all know its not gonna happen. I am not very convinced by the ‘eierlegende Wollmilchsau‘ concept in a single centralized hand. Do you have any idea how to extract all your data from there when it s time to leave? Where is the open source – peer to peer – my data on my server – ad free – social network?

The video is great! :-)
