“1H” is a workshop and performance piece for a Public Space. In a two day workshop a group of participants are building weapon paper models extracted from the online computer game "World of Warcraft". Oversized axes, swords and other archaic weapons made from paper and cardboard find their way into the physical world. Each participant builds his favorite one handed (1H) weapon using different kind of software and classic workshop tools. The concept for the performance is to walk the weapon on the back (or similar) in Public Space. The axe or sword in “standby mode” takes part in every day like a standard object while taking the metro, going to a store or walking the pedestrian zone. The weapons are worne just like an every day life accessoire and are not ment to be "used".
What role do one handed weapons play in the era of high-tec-war society? Why is the Tolkien fantasy scenario with elbs, dwarfs, orcs etc. nowadays so successful? What is the relation of over exaggerated archaic weapons in computer games and every day life in society?
This piece is still work in progress and hasn't been realized as a workshop and group performance yet. The Ripsaw is a first sample piece of a series of extracted World of Warcraft one handed weapons The Ripsaw was found at the WoW papercraft blog. The movie has been shot in Cologne Germany produced by Giga Digital Television for the show "WoW" on 29.2.2008.
